Laboratories Details

Laboratory and workshop enacts as key resource towards availing best of practical knowledge to students. We at PRPGEI understand this better and have availed with best of Laboratory and workshop setup for exposing best of knowledge to our students. The laboratories are well equipped and fully furnished. The following information shows our major equipments setup in these laboratories

Basic Electrical Engineering Lab (I Year) :

In this lab students gets familiar to passive and active electronic and electrical components, circuit analysis as well as basic electrical machines. This laboratory also reinforce the theoretical concepts with a hands-on approach and allow the students to gain significant experience with electrical instruments such as AC and DC circuit analysis, transformer, electrical machines, digital meters, oscilloscopes, logic gates power supplies and so on. The facility created is geared to freshmen and others who want to clarify fundamentals to electrical and electronics.

Electrical Workshop Lab :

The Electrical Workshop is sufficiently outfitted with all the equipment and accessories for conducting practical. Practical winding of Transformer, models of small transformer and machinery (cut-view) and wiring accessories as per BIS specifications are being deployed for the benefit of the students. The students are exposed to the current practices in repairing and maintenance of appliances, domestic wiring and industrial installation including the types of starters used for starting various electrical motor. A new facility of winding machine has been added to enrich students with the practical exposure.

Network Analysis Lab:

In this lab the experiments based on the subject, Network Analysis taught in BE III Sem are conducted. In this, the experiments on verification of various network theorems e.g. Thevenin’s Theorem, Norton’s Theorem, Superposition Theorem, Maximum Power Transfer Theorem etc. are done. Various network parameters like z parameter, network functions for a given circuit are experimentally found as well as the principle of series/parallel resonance for RLC circuits are studied.Students get a good exposure of different methods of solving the complicated circuit practically and they come close to the various practical problems and their respective/prospective solutions here. There are all necessary ranges of voltmeters, ammeters & rheostats with the kits of above-mentioned theorems.

Electrical Machine Lab :

Electrical machines laboratory is equipped with recent AC machines (single phase and three phase Transformers, Induction machines and Synchronous machines) and DC machines, enabling our students to work in an industrial environment. The lab facilities are sufficient to conduct experiments as per University syllabus and much more relevant experiments. The lab gives the students a thorough practical knowledge of AC and DC machines along with its industrial applications. Safety precautions have been taken carefully to avoid any mishap and the student gets a free environment for research and development of concepts.

Power Electronics Lab:

The lab is equipped with different Power Electronics kits to study various aspects of Power Electronics Circuits for power conversion. The major experimental setups are Cycloconverters, Commutation Circuits, Triac Circuits, Half Controlled and Fully Controlled Converter Circuits, 3-Phase Controlled Rectifier, Parallel Inverter, Series Inverter, Buck/Boost Chopper. The DC drive setup is also available to control DC Shunt Motor.

Switch Gear & Protection Lab:

The Lab is equipped with various switch gear instruments used in power system like Demonstration panel,MCB & RCCB Testing set, IDMT, Over current, thermal, overvoltage, Earth fault, differential Numerical relays.. The students are exposed to study various types of circuit breakers, fuse characteristics, CT characteristics. The lab gives the experience of different protection devices used in power systems.These relays are studied and operated.

Power System Laboratory:

Power system Laboratory comprises of protection, simulation, high voltage and machine related experiments. Facilities are available for overcurrent, undervoltege, directional, differential and distance relays including different numerical relays. MatLab for Power system Simulation like Load flow analysis is available.

Major Equipment

Synchronous Machine, Induction Generator, Three Phase-Three windings Transformer, Overcurrent Relay, Short circuit test of an Alternator, Directional Relay, Digital distance Relay, Simulation Panel, etc.

Electrical Measurement & Measuring Instruments Lab:

The students are exposed to various modern measuring techniques to measure resistance, capacitance, inductance, stress, strain etc. Well-designed kits are available to study different types of `Bridge Circuits’. AC potentiometers and DC potentiometers are used to measure ac and dc unknown voltages. 3-Phase inductive load is used for measurement of 3-Phase reactive Power using one wattmeter, The Lab is equipped with CRO, oscilloscopes, CT, PT, Bridges, various trainer kit and earth tester such as megger), signal generators, digital multimeters and loading inductor, capacitor, resistive loads, LCR meter, energy meter.

Computing and Programming/Simulation Lab:

Simulation Laboratory provides students a platform for research along with the curriculum demands. It is well equipped with MATLAB, SciLabsoftware.In this lab programming and simulation of various numerical methods in power systems, load flow analysis is done. Required facilities are available in the lab.

Control System Lab:

This lab has all the control setups like DC and AC position control systems units, control mechanism for positioning load at the desired position using open loop and closed loop control, synchro transmitter-receiver pair, AC and DC servo motors. A well-designed unit is available to study temperature control systems.

PG Research Lab:

The Lab is equipped with Simulation Tools and software like MATLAB and, MiPower used for research in Electrical Power System. The Lab is also equipped with equipment like Power Quality Analyser, Oil testing kit, Simulator, Digital Oscilloscope, PLCs, AC drives used for research by PG and Ph.D students.
